How to choose a prism pole

Two decisions drive the choice: height and lock style. A 2.15m quick-release pole covers most building layout — the QR lets you set repeatable rod heights all day. Go telescopic to 4.6m when you're shooting over obstructions or across big sites. Either way, insist on dual graduations, an adjustable vial you can calibrate, and a replaceable tip — the tip wears out first on concrete work.

Prism pole vs rover rod vs range pole

They look similar, but they're three tools: GNSS rover rods prioritize a fixed 2m height for constant antenna-height entry, prism poles prioritize adjustability for total station work, and steel range poles are pure sighting and alignment — red/white meter bands, hardened point, no graduations to protect.

Leveling staffs for grade work

For checking grade with an automatic level, a 5m telescopic E-pattern staff covers slab, footing, and site work. Both-face graduations save walking; a padded bag keeps sections sliding smoothly.
