Why the tribrach is the most important cheap thing you own
Every measurement flows through the tribrach. A drifting optical plummet silently corrupts every setup over control, which is why we calibration-check plummets before shipping instead of assuming the factory did. A 2.5x focusing plummet and honest vials are the whole job description.
Tripod ratings that matter
Load rating and leg locks. Total stations and RTK bases want a 20kg-rated flat head with quick clamps that actually hold on hot days. Dual-surface feet (steel points plus rubber caps) handle dirt and finished slab alike.
Measuring wheels and quick-release adapters
A spoked measuring wheel with a resettable counter handles locates and takeoffs a tape can't reach — and a push-button 5/8 x 11 quick-release swaps GNSS heads in one second with zero nominal height added. Both live in the truck, both pay rent daily.
